Dr. Sonia Kern was raised in Northern New Jersey. She completed her undergraduate education at The College of New Jersey, and then went on to graduate from UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical School as part of an accelerated 7 Year BS/MD Program. In her junior year of medical school she was awarded membership in Alpha Omega Alpha.
After completing an internal medicine internship at Sound Shore Medical Center of Westchester, Dr. Kern underwent her ophthalmology residency training at New York University. She then pursued a fellowship in Cornea, External Disease, and Refractive Surgery at Emory Eye Center in Atlanta, Georgia.
Dr. Kern sought employment in the Northeast in order to be closer to family and friends. She joined Ramapo Ophthalmology Associates in the summer of 2014. Dr. Kern performs a number of ophthalmologic procedures, including cataract surgery, refractive surgery (LASIK and PRK), pterygium surgery, corneal collagen crosslinking, and corneal transplant surgery (penetrating keratoplasty and Descemet stripping endothelial keratoplasty).
Dr. Kern enjoys serving the wonderful people of the Rockland County area as a Comprehensive Ophthalmologist and Cornea Specialist, and providing quality, compassionate eye care.
